SDCC - Tron Banners

Whew! What a tiring weekend. We just got back from my first trip to the mecca of Comic Conventions (San Diego Comic Con) and Jaci’s first trip to San Diego evar. I have to say, the trip was fun, exciting, hectic, crazy, and I’d do it all over again (although I can’t say the same thing for Jaci).

We were greeted in San Diego where every street sign was lined with a Tron poster and buildings had epic banners of epicness.

There were celebrity sitings galore as the 1st night we were there we saw Charisma Carpenter outside our hotel, followed by eating at the same restauraunt as LL Cool J, Lou Feringo, and Danny Devito. We then walked by the entire cast of V, saw the King of Vampires(Mississippi?) from True Blood, Peter Jackson, among others.

The trip was long an tiring but without further delay here are some of our pictures!

We got up bright and early on Friday to get in line for the convention and on the way Jaci stubbed her toe (not a good start to the day) and remained grouchy for the majority of that morning. Then again, who wouldn’t be grouchy when you had to wait in the line pictures below.

In line at SDCC

Little did we know(since this was our first time) was that Friday is actually a relatively mellow day and it would only continue to get crazier and crazier.

In the convention:

Random celebrity sitings:

New cool art:

Jaci and I refer to this one as the “Taylor Swift as Supergirl” piece. This is probably one of the favorite pieces in my collection now. Also Scott drew this on a giant board, I didn’t full measure it but I think its 18×22 or something.

Scott Clark - Supergirl

Omar hasn’t done a Supegirl before and he was concerned with how it turned out, but I was blown away. This was such an incredibly cute and awesome Supergirl!

Omar Dogan - Supergirl

I have another Supergirl from Philip but once I saw him working with ink wash I knew I needed to have another one! Well here it is:

Philip Tan - Supergirl

I’ve been a huge fan of Stephane’s for a long time but he’s never come up to the Nor Cal shows. Once I found out he was going to be at SDCC I knew I had to grab a piece and I lucked out!

Stephane Roux - Supergirl

The Udon team continues to blow me away with their art style. This is another take on Supergirl by Eric Vedder!

I have quite a few more pieces that I haven’t shown here, you can check them all out in my personal collection at http://demianlee.com/photos

I <3 Zazzle

Monday, July 20th, 2009

So I’m pretty sure everyone knows, but I <3 Zazzle. Perhaps the greatest place to work at, but it’s also a great place to get gifts and shop around.

So at work I don’t have a mousepad and so I’ve been waiting around and decided to just buy one from Zazzle to have at my desk. Then it suddenly dawned on me, “DUH, I collect all this art at home, I might as well turn one of them into this awesome mousepad”. So I printed the mousepad below!

Pretty cool huh? Anyways, I’m really pleased with the way the mousepad turned out, I’m thinking of getting some mugs or something else with the art on it.

On a semi related note, there is a sort of new restaurant with the chef from the Grateful Dead/Google in town and country village in Palo Alto called Calafia and they have the moooossttt delciious smoothies. My favorite smoothie has organic orange juice, carrot juice, peaches, honey, agave and vanilla yogurt. So everyone should go visit and try that smoothie. Oh yeah… and it’s called the Zazzle Zinger (coincidence? I think not… Awesome T-Shirts = Awesome Smoothie). In all seriousness, the smoothies ARE really good and the Zazzle Zinger is the best one…

SuperCon 2009

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

So far I’m pretty surprised at how consistent I have been with updates. On the other hand, all TWO of them were comic book related things and as I likely won’t be going to another comic book convention until February 2010, we might be in trouble with my post count.

Anyways, SuperCon was an okay show this year. They had a lot of pretty cool names on the list and I managed to grab a few pieces. Unfortunately, the Adam Hughes disappointment still continues. I’ve been getting on his convention list since 2004 and have nothing to show for it yet. Well, I’m going to try to stay positive and hopefully I’ll get one next year!

So before I get into the pieces I got, I just wanted to mention, pretty much every time I drag Jaci to a comic book convention, I need to take her shopping to appease her. Normally it’s pretty terrible, but we made a quick stop at Anthropologie, perhaps my most hated store because #1 I don’t get it…is it old? is it new? is it just really expensive? and #2 its very perfumee, smelly and is terrible for my allergies. However, she got something I semi approve of =P

anthropologie-omg

ZING! Maybe next year we’ll pick up the letters h4x. =P

So, far my pictures here I think I’ll be sticking with Picasa for awhile (or at least until I hit their 1GB storage…which isn’t that much all Google things considered),.

The piece I got include (larger thumbnails below):

  • a SuperGirl piece from Whilce Portacio. Pretty stoked about this piece. Whilce is one of the original founders of Image Comics and is most  known for his work on Punisher, X-Factor and more recently Spawn.
  • A quick sketch from Travis Charest of his original character Spacegirl
  • Another Supergirl piece from Joe Benitez
  • A quick sketch from Humberto Ramos of Supergirl
  • And finally a commission from Eduardo Risso of Supergirl
  • pending I got on Talent Caldwell’s list first thing but he had artists block on it so he said he’ll aim to finish it this Friday.

** POST CON UPDATE **

So kind of funny story. One of my co-workers heard of my sadness about yet another lost chance at my Adam Hughes commission so on Monday when I came to work I was welcomed with a nice surprise. Not an Adam Hughes piece, but a Calestar Original Punisher!!!111 Bam! Demian out!

WonderCon 2009 Recap

Friday, May 15th, 2009

So I realized i never posted any info on our trip to WonderCon so I figured I should post up some pictures, especially with our SuperCon trip coming up this weekend. Also, since I’m using the G1 now for my cell phone and it’s pretty well integrated with Picasa, I think i’ll give that a shot to see how it’s picture interface is.

Overall WonderCon was pretty cool. We only got 4 pieces but they were all really awesome. The first is Supergirl by a Wildstorm Artist Eddie Nunez. The second is another Supergirl by Aspen artist Joe Benitez. The third piece, and probably one of Jaci and my favorites is an awesome Rogue by Aspen Artist Micah Gunnel. The way this guy draws is absolutely fantastic. The 4th is a quick sketch Micah did for me in the sketchbook of Supergirl (pictures below).

We skipped out on Saturday (as per the usual) to avoid the really hectic crowds, so on Sunday we checked out the Chuck panel which was pretty interesting. It was a lot more packed than we thought it would be (although maybe not enough given all the save chuck ruckus that’s been going on. Anyhoo, hopefully I’ll get some really awesome goodies from SuperCon this weekend!
